Mauricio Pochettino confirms key man’s absence for Liverpool vs Chelsea

It has been announced by Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino that Levi Colwill will not be available to play against Liverpool on Wednesday night.

The Premier League matchup between the Blues and Anfield will be replayed in the Carabao Cup final next month.

Liverpool, who have won all of their home games this year, will play their first Premier League game since Jurgen Klopp’s shocking resignation announcement last week. A victory over Chelsea would keep the Reds atop the standings heading into a crucial stretch of play.

While Dominik Szoboszlai, Andy Robertson, and Trent Alexander-Arnold all made their comebacks in Sunday’s FA Cup victory over Norwich, Klopp has been able to welcome back important players in recent games, Chelsea still has a number of selection issues.

Colwill won’t be travelling to Merseyside with the team due to a tendon problem, Pochettino disclosed in his pre-match press conference.

“He suffered a minor injury in his tendon,” he stated. “It’s not a big issue but he is going to be out for tomorrow.”

Colwill has been excellent so far this season, appearing in 20 of the Blues’ 21 Premier League games, mostly at left defender. The recruiting team at Liverpool is still considering him.

The 20-year-old, along with Wesley Fofana, Reece James, Marc Cucurella, Romeo Lavia, Robert Sanchez, Lesley Ugochukwu, and Trevoh Chalobah, is one of eight first-team players who are unavailable for Chelsea.

Malo Gusto and Christopher Nkunku, whose Senegal team was ousted from the Africa Cup of Nations on Monday night, are back in the running, according to Pochettino. Nicolas Jackson may even make an appearance.
