‘Secretly’… Fabrizio Romano says Chelsea nearly went and signed 21-year-old instead of Cole Palmer this summer

Late in the transfer window, Fabrizio Romano asserts that Chelsea nearly took a completely different turn.

He claimed on YouTube that the Blues were considering a trade for Nico Williams prior to finalising Cole Palmer’s move from Manchester City.

Following his deadline-day trade, Palmer has been a complete revelation for the Blues this season. Last weekend’s matchup against his former team demonstrated just how far he has progressed.

He was the man against City, who were more than willing to take advantage of him, as he led the show with Raheem Sterling. It’s possible that they will be starting to regret that.

His recent success was acknowledged with a call-up to the England senior team, and in the next few days, he may make his debut.

Still, things almost went very differently. Romano has stated that, towards the end of the window, they explored taking a different route.

Williams almost signed for Chelsea instead of Palmer..

Nico Williams was on Chelsea’s summer wish list, he said. Cole Palmer was their top goal, but when he wasn’t available and they didn’t receive approval from Manchester City, Nico Williams was one of the names they were covertly considering at the team.
