Top 10 Ranking Chelsea defenders from worst to best

Chelsea currently has 10 defenders on the team, and this summer, the club hopes to add two more center backs.

We will rate players in each position from worst to best before the session begins. Let’s begin with the team’s defenders right away.

Worst

Malaga Sarr: When Chelsea’s normal players were injured last season, the center-backs started a few games. Sarr did not perform well overall, though, and he cannot consistently start for a team that is competing for the championship.

Average

Marcos Alonso: The left-back has his moments and may be a good goalscoring threat occasionally, but he is not a defensive player of the highest caliber.

Emerson Palmieri: He hasn’t been in a Chelsea match in quite some time, and while he might make a good backup, Emerson is undoubtedly not at the level of a starting player.

Good

The captain’s performance undoubtedly suffered as he grew older and slower, according to Cesar Azpilicueta. Azpi is still a competent defender, though, and Chelsea values his versatility and ability to take charge.

Trevoh Chalobah: In this area, Chalobah just about makes the cut. The center-play back’s is a touch erratic because he had a strong start to the season but a weak finish. Chalobah’s skill is evident to all, though, and perhaps he will keep improving over time.

Ethan Ampadu: Ampadu hasn’t yet played for Thomas Tuchel, but during his impressive loan at Venezia, where he made 26 starts, he averaged 2.3 tackles and 1.8 interceptions per game. Next season, he ought to be a valuable squad option.

Best

Kalidou Koulibaly is one of the greatest defenders Chelsea could have acquired this summer to replace Antonio Rudiger, so not much explanation is required here.

Thiago Silva is the team’s defensive captain and a seasoned professional who has excelled for Chelsea over the course of two seasons.

Sky is the limit for Reece James, who last season assisted on more goals in the Premier League than any other fullback. Nobody in England is a more complete defender than Reece.

Ben Chilwell: Chilwell was in the best shape of his life last season, and his injury lost Chelsea a lot of points because of how essential he is.
